Franchise FAQ
Thinking about opening a Dunmore Locksmith location? Here are straight answers to the questions we hear most from prospective franchisees. Call (910) 714-4287 when you’re ready to talk specifics.
Common Questions
Do I need locksmith experience to open a Dunmore Locksmith franchise?
No. Most of our franchise owners came from management, sales, or military backgrounds, not from picking locks. We teach you the trade during training, and you hire technicians who do the hands-on work. Your job is running the business: scheduling, pricing, customer relationships, and making sure every call meets the Threshold Standard.
What is the total investment range to open a Dunmore Locksmith location?
Total investment typically runs between $85,000 and $175,000 depending on your territory size, whether you start from a home office or lease commercial space, and your local vehicle and equipment costs. That range covers your franchise fee, initial tools and inventory, vehicle upfit, training, and marketing launch. We’ll give you a detailed line-item breakdown before you commit, so you know where every dollar goes.
Is financing available?
Yes. We have relationships with third-party lenders who understand the Threshold Group model, and many franchisees use SBA-backed loans or equipment financing for the vehicle and tool packages. We don’t finance in-house, but we’ll connect you with lenders who’ve funded our owners before and can move quickly once you’re approved.
How does territory and exclusivity work?
You receive an exclusive territory defined by zip codes or county lines, typically covering 150,000 to 400,000 residents. No other Dunmore Locksmith or Threshold Group location will market inside your territory, and we don’t sell overlapping areas. Your exclusivity is written into the franchise agreement, renewable as long as you meet performance standards.
How long is the training program?
Initial training lasts four weeks: two weeks at our headquarters covering operations, pricing software, the Threshold Standard customer protocols, and basic lock theory, followed by two weeks in an operating location shadowing a veteran owner through real service calls. After you open, a Threshold field advisor spends your first week with you on-site. Ongoing training happens quarterly through video calls and annual in-person conferences.
What ongoing fees or royalties will I pay?
You’ll pay a monthly royalty based on a percentage of gross revenue, plus a fixed marketing contribution that funds regional and national brand advertising. There are no hidden technology fees or mandatory equipment replacement schedules. We disclose the exact percentages in our Franchise Disclosure Document, which you’ll receive after your initial qualifying call.
How long does it take to open after I sign?
Most franchisees open for business within 60 to 90 days of signing. That timeline includes securing your vehicle, completing training, setting up your phone and dispatch system, and launching local marketing. If you need longer to arrange financing or find the right technician, we don’t rush you. We’d rather open right than open fast.
What support do you provide after I’m open?
You get a dedicated field advisor for your first year, 24/7 live phone support from our franchisee help desk, access to our proprietary pricing and dispatch software, pre-negotiated supplier relationships with Schlage, Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and other major brands, and marketing materials that are tested and ready to deploy. The 365-Day Done Right Promise, the upfront pricing protocol, and the Threshold Standard technician verification system are all built into the operations manual. You don’t have to invent anything.
What does the ideal Dunmore Locksmith candidate look like?
Someone who understands that showing up on time with a clean uniform and a photo ID matters as much as knowing how to rekey a deadbolt. Our best owners are organized, comfortable hiring and leading technicians, and genuinely bothered by the idea of a customer waiting at a door wondering who is about to knock. You don’t need to be a locksmith. You need to be someone who would never let a stranger into their own mother’s house without knowing exactly who they were.
What’s my next step if I want to learn more?
Call (910) 714-4287 and ask for franchise development. We’ll send you a brief questionnaire, schedule a 30-minute introductory call, and if it makes sense for both sides, provide our Franchise Disclosure Document. There’s no fee to explore, and we don’t pressure. A bad franchise match hurts us both, so we’re honest about fit from the first conversation.
